Interview with Narii "She plans to release two more singles in the coming weeks"

Thank you for agreeing to this interview. Today, we’d like to ask you a few questions to get to know your story better.
Before we begin, so the audience can understand the context, here’s a biography: Who is Narii? Narii is a 23-year-old artist hailing from Barbados, where she was raised immersed in the vibrant sounds of dancehall and soca. While her Caribbean roots are an essential part of her identity, she draws significant inspiration from American R&B artists, particularly Rihanna, which influences her unique sound. Naturally observant and introspective, Narii prefers to let her music speak for itself rather than reveal everything about herself upfront. Simply put, she’s an island girl with a passion for singing and storytelling through her music.
What inspired you to start making music? Narii’s passion for music began at a very young age—around seven years old. She was inspired by her late father, who was a singer and guitarist; they would sing together, creating early memories that deeply shaped her love for music. She also sang in church as a child, which helped nurture her vocal skills and emotional expression. Although she didn’t write her first song until her final year of high school, Narii kept developing her craft through college, sharing a few tracks on SoundCloud along the way. After a brief pause due to life’s demands and pursuing other interests, she is now making a strong return with her latest single, marking her official comeback after nearly two years.
What has been your favorite project so far?
- Although Narii hasn’t released a full project yet, she has consistently shared singles that showcase her evolving sound. Her favorite so far is the single Papi — an experimental track that allowed her to explore her Latin roots. Being half Latin and fluent in Spanish, this song was a fun and fresh direction for her creatively. She also has an unreleased song called Butterfly, which is deeply personal and tells the story of her journey from a humble upbringing to discovering her own strength and freedom.
What message do you want to convey through your songs? Narii wants people to truly feel where she comes from and understand her story beyond the surface. She’s often judged by what people see on Instagram—as a bougie, diva, or gold digger—but her reality is very different. She grew up poor, faced intense hardships like eating out of trash cans, losing her dad and other family members, and battling suicidal thoughts. By the age of 23, she had already been married twice.
Narii’s music is a reflection of all these experiences—her struggles, her growth, and the realities of life from a small, economically challenged island. She writes about women’s struggles, relationships, partying, and the complex emotions of being in your early 20s. Her songs are poetic and honest, aiming to inspire listeners by showing that despite hardship, it’s possible to rise, relate, and find strength. Ultimately, she wants her audience to see her truth, connect with her journey, and feel encouraged in their own lives.
What is one of your dreams as an artist? One of Narii’s biggest dreams is to inspire millions of people through her music and build a loyal fanbase that truly connects with her on a personal level. She hopes to make a living doing what she loves most—creating and performing music. Along the way, she dreams of traveling the world and achieving milestones like meeting Rihanna, who she shares a special connection with since they both come from the same neighborhood in Barbados.

What can we expect from you next? The single Papi is just the beginning for Narii. She plans to release two more singles in the coming weeks, including a special Christmas song. Following that, she will drop two additional singles leading up to her very first official album. Fans can also look forward to alternative versions of Papi, including an acoustic and a techno remix, both set to be released in the next few days.
